This time I'm giving you a list of the books that got me started doing some of the stuff I do. I still reference and use them from time to time. If you're just starting out in your DIY journey, I think these are worthy of a spot on your bookshelf.

Let's start with the one that has inspired me since childhood: Back to Basics. The cover I remember was yellow, but the information is nearly identical. This book has a little of everything about traditional skills. As a girl I loved the idea of making my own toys and planting a garden. As an adult, I dream about owning property and helping my children raise their children on it. I need to read through this one more, as I always find something new that I can apply.
I almost always like the books in the "For Dummies" series, with a few exceptions. I have used the knitting one the most, as I learned how to knit almost exclusively from it. I recommend these if you are looking to get into these hobbies.
Making It, Radical Home Ec for a Post Consumer World by Kelly Coyne and Erik Knutzen. This book got me started making my own deodorant, cleaning products, toothpaste, ferments, the list goes on and on. This book is easy to follow and worth the shelf space.
Herbs for Common Aliments by Rosemary Gladstar. I own a few more books by Rosemary, but I think this is a good one to get started with herbalism and making your own remedies. The methods are simple and the applications are for common issues. I especially like making tinctures out of the herbs I grow in my garden.
The Natural Soapmaking Book for Beginners by Kelly Cable. This book has made learning to make soap so easy! I also love Kelly's soap recipes. If you're interested in making soap and concerned about the ingredients that go into it (as you SHOULD be), this book is worth it!
I hope you've found this list helpful. I don't make money on any of the links, they are just for reference. I will always suggest buying used copies if you can. These books really helped me start making and doing things that have made my family a little less dependent on the 'system'. Also it feels good to know you can do things when and if you need, and be in control of what goes into your products!
Thanks for being here! See you soon!
